If I didn't get burned.. then.. what?

Ok, I AM IN NO WAY STATING THAT I HAVE BEEN RIPPED OF IN ANY WAY! I had so much trouble with this already.

many have already read the transaction problems between me and chad174 (the 32mb of ram) I finally got the ram last week, tested it, and found out it's bad. I ran several tests on my machine(s), my friend's machine, and finally took it to the local computer shop to be hooked up on this huge simm/dimm tester they have. It cost a few dollars to test, but they also said the ram was bad. I e-mailed chad174 on the 7th and explained the situation to him, but got no response. I know hotmail accounts can be a pain, so I re-emailed the letter to him on the 10th, I have yet got a response. What should I do?

Personally I would hope that Chad174 would be willing to refund your money or exchange the memory for you.

I personally have not seen any postings here in the forum from him or the last couple of days.

you still have his home address I would personally send him a breif note asking him to contact you

I dont mean to add any fuel to the fire here.....but now maybe we can see why chad was getting so fired up over nothing to begin with?.....perhaps feeling a little nervous to begin with? i would def try to contact him via snail mail for "legal" purposes, even though I hate to use that word this early on. Maybe crapmail (excuse me , hotmail) is really down. btw, what kind of ram is it your loking for? If what I have from my old comp (p200 mmx circa 1997) is what your lookin for I dont mind passing it on for just shipping costs.
Also, While Im here, Im still waiting for the check Skywalker for the cpu. I'll Let you know when it gets here.

Thank you chipbgt.

I felt the same way when I started dealing with him, but that was already after I had sent the money order. I knew something was up, and now that the ram doesn't work, everything makes more sense now. I will write him today (snailmail) and mail it to his home address. Who knows what will happen but I will keep this thread updated.

(the item in question is 32MB of PC66 RAM - 168pin SDRAM)

Thanks everyone

I know this prolly doesn't help you much right now, but I noticed at Hostclub, he posted there a few times and then all a sudden he changed his user name but kept the same email address. We haven't heard from him in a while. I'll email the mods there and see if maybe we can come up with something for ya. There is no sense is **** like this. This just makes it harder for reputable people to do some trading. That address may be chaged now too. I'll see what I can do. Maybe nothing but I'll try.

I will say that my only experience in trading here has been a very positive one.
I traded a set of digital speakers for a video card with Capn' Crunch and we were both very happy.

Just to let you know there is still some good going on around here.

Sorry OGradius.

im Capn Crunch - but my name at this board is drdeath - an old name i used to go by. i wanna change my name.... but dont think i can... is it possible to?

and yes - it was a great transaction. it pisses me off tho when we have problems like this - it ruins it for the other 95% of us who are honest and trustworthy....

UPDATE

Chad174 has been banned from Hostclub under that user name and a few others. I talked to the mods there and that was the respnose I got. He has also been banned from AGN3d. I hate to hear about your unfortuante circumstance. If you want you could post a similar message at Hostclub and at AGN to alert others of this POS troll!! He changed his handle to "snake187" at Host and was banned shortly thereafter. I'll send you the email that he put up for that handle if you want. If you would, please post a thread at Host with the link below. Good luck.

I really thank you guys for the kind of response I'm getting against this guy. I've always been kind of shaky about trading with people over the internet, and this just shows the validity of those fears.
I'm not really sure what to do from here. All I have is his address (or at least, the one he gave me to send the money to) As for now, I'll just sit hear shaking my head in wonder, realizing just how cruel this world and the people in it are.

You know if an honest citizen attempted to pull a scam like this, the FBI would be breaking down their right about now (well, maybe not) but it's the scumbags like Chad, that seem to get away with everything.

::sigh::

Well, if anyone has a 32MB SDRAM chip they are interested in selling, let me know. I've already spent close to $50 just to get this one! My system is choking on it's 16MB!

Thanks

Gradius,
Just a quick thought for you. If in any of the postings from chad174 or the emails that he sent you he stated that the ram was in working condition you will have a case against him....It is a very stiff penalty he can face. If I remember correctly he sent the ram to you thru the US Mail...Thus it does provide you with a LEGAL leg to stand on. (mail fraud!) I would send him a TRACKABLE letter to his address you gave him giving him X amount of days to contact you with a reply. after that time has expired you can proceed with legal action. (If you so decide to)

Sorry to hear that you got ripped off by this guy! (but I can say I have done a good share of trading on the net without any problems (knocking on wood) )

Good Luck...We are behind you

ok let's see.

When I sent him the payment, I sent it in the form of a money order (have the receipt), 2-3 day priority mail w/delivery confirmation (have the receipt of that). When he finally sent the RAM, he sent it in the same manner (have all packaging etc.) I also have every e-mail message he sent to me, and I sent to him. And yes, he did clearly state in one e-mail that the "stick has worked fine for me for over a
year".

I believe the mail fraud approach would be the way to go. send him a registered letter to the effect that he does not settle this you will go to the postal authoritys, with a charge of mail fraud, a federal offense by the way.
If all the facts and history be true. (legalese} it shows how dificult tracking a less than honest person can be on the net. particularly as identities can be changed so easily.
