RG: Is a separte hdd much better than a separate partition?
Setting up a new Master hdd in a 300A celery @464. Is there any significant difference between a separate hdd with a partition for swapfile as opposed to just a partition on the new and spacious hdd? Thanks

I would think so, the SWAP file is like RAM, only on the hard drive. If you have 1 drive writing to a swap file, and reading to write to the swap file, it would make a difference, however, since the size of aa hard drive you would use for a swap file would be like 500mb tops, then that drive would most likely be slow, so partion away!

Hi Perce,
I am a little curious as to how it will play out. I am wondering where IBM sets up the 2GB cache on the hdd. Because that may have a say where the swapfile goes, per order. Seems I was looking at six partitions, but can't remember if that included the swapfile or not. I am going to make a local inquiry on where IBM places the big cache file. "I'll be back!!!"
