    16meg 72pin simms for $4

Anyone that lives in the Baton Rouge area, check out the computer store on sherwood next to sparky's and pick up some cheap RAM. They've got a loose box of chips. An extra 32megs in my old pentium class made a huge difference and it only cost me $8 + tax.

Hey scourge, how much is tax down there? If you picked up 6 of them and shipped them to me, I'd give you $30 for them. Let me know... joel@sysopt.com or just reply here.

I'm afraid I've been a little misleading about the ease of acquiring these chips. I've had a few e-mails requesting I pick some up and ship them to various people, but this is not feasible. The problem is, the box of RAM is simply a loose bag. No two RAM are the same. None of the RAM is clearly marked. You could just as easily pick up a 72pin 4meg simm as a 72pin 16meg simm since they're both one-sided. The store owner does not know which is which and is simply selling them as one-sided ($4) and two-sided ($8). When I went, there was only 1 chip clearly marked 16meg EDO. I bought it and 2 other chips that I thought might be 16meg. One of them was so I lucked out. I don't know who in this board lives in the B.R. area, but it's worth the drive over there and take your best shot at guessing which are 4meg and which are 16meg. The owner allows you to bring them back and swap them out, but no refunds.

Well, I just checked out www.pricewatch.com it is $16 for 1, so buy 4 and if you get a single 16mb, then you are doing good. Right now I am broke, so I will not be asking you to pick up 12 sticks for me.
