    Password programs

I am looking for some security programs for Win 98 because you know that of you hit the
cancel button it will let you login anyway.
if you know of a password program or a registry hack or other settings that will
not let some one start a Win 98 machine
without proper password please let me know.

    Linux, NT, Win2k, XP.

Actually, there is reg hack to require a cetain number of chars entered for password. This is the best you will get with win98, as like 3.x, all win9X OSes are not secure.

We can thank Bill Gates, for this. Guess having the most money, doesn't make the best product.

    Open the following key,

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Run

create a new string value named "NoLogon" (no quotation marks). Give it the value

    "RUNDLL32 shell32,SHExitWindowsEx 0"

If you press cancel while sat at the password request screen, windows should start to log on, and then send you back to it. Note, manually editing your registry is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Proceed with caution. If this tweak gives you problems, then you should be able to disable it by pressing F8 on bootup, and deleting the string value in safe mode.

    Good luck,

    Deo

I see how this works for the "Cancel" button (great reg hack, btw). But how does this require password validation? Can't I just create any user/password combo to logon?

Plus, can always boot to DOS <oops>/Safe Mode</oops> and access all data. I repeat, "all win9X OSes are not secure".
