Lightbulb To those who have DSL

I am thinking about getting DSL, but need to know if there are any charges accept set up, modem and internet. In my city they offer DSL for 49.95USD and it includes their unlimited internet access (255Kb) and 1.5Mb for about $60.

    Thanx!

I ordered DSL and there are no charges for setup. Most will even send someone to your house to get you up and running at no charge. But it's pretty simple to do it yourself. The only charges I can think of is for the modem and if there is something wrong with your phone line and need it repaired or replaced. The modem cost me $99.

10 DAYS! I have to wait and entire month for them to connect me. And the worst thing is that I recieved the modem 3 days after I ordered the service. I set the modem up and installed all the filters but wont be connected until early July. The least they could have done is wait to the week before I'm connected to send me the modem.

DSL deserves a big thumbs up!

I love it. I've been on it for about a month now and I thinks it's great. Umm...Setup fees.....NONE I have DSL with GTE and they didn't charge us for the package they sent us that consisted of the dsl modem, instrutions, filters, spliter, crossover cable, and a regular phone cable. They didn't come out to my house though. But i'm telling you it's as easy as setting up aol. hehe But trust me once you get on it you'll never go back to dia-up ever again.

You know it might not be the 17.95 that you pay for dial up, but trust me it's worth the extra money. Less hassles and fustration.

    Thumbs up

Ive used adsl from a local ISP in Lakewood SoCal, (about 80 customers) thru GTE for over a year now, it was free to set-up, modem included, 10 meg webspace, 2 mail accts, I use whats called "bronze+" which is 768dwn 128 up 49$ on a static connect, I have a Linksys router providing the connection to 4 PC's + 1 Mac G3...I might be able to get it for 10$ less elsewhere now (Earthlink etc), i'd get a dynamic connect and PPOE...not sure if thats a prob now, was in the beginning w/ my hrdware, but it works so well at this point...id hate to throw it off for 10$...

emcron keep trying it they ( Pacbell ) told me mine would not work till DAY XX, think it was 10 days ? I had to do a reinstall and figured what the heck and went ahead and set it all up this was 3 days before it was supposed to work and what do ya know I've been using it every sence
the 10 days might just turn out to be 3,5,or 7 days but they will not call you and tell ya that so keep trying it

    Cool

I'm a DSL user (excellent technology - love it.).. and if I had to go back to dialup, I'd probably cut down on the internet for the most part, since I could not handle the speed...

Maybe in few years this area will be modern enough to support it. Heck the last time i checked ( couple weeks ago ) this area isn't even on the list yet... Oh well just have to keep the strings tight between the cans i guess ( north east PA )

sheesh... what do ya want, a miracle? This area doesn't even have fiber optic phone lines yet for most residential sections. They only installed fiber optic cable last year.
