Poll: What is the size of your registry?
just out of curiosity..
Using regedit to export the registry to a file, ie... regbak and looking at the properties for that file, what is the size?
my windows98 system has been in activity for about 2 years, with alot of programs installed and uninstalled , etc.. I thought that I kept a pretty clean registry until I saw that mine was a Whopping 8.7 megs. now I say Whopping because I checked on a machine at work that has next to nothing on it and with a fairly fresh install and it showed 2.3 meg. soooo please feel free to share.

1.64 MB, adding the System.dat & User.dat file sizes together. Some unorthodox surgery continuously done to keep it small -- for instance, all DirectMusic, DirectPlay, & DirectX for Java removed. Mmefxe.ocx, Dx3j.dll unregistered, hh.exe & all associated "Html help" junk removed, Pstores.exe & all associated "protected storage" junk removed, etc. 100% stable, tho. Really makes a speed difference.

I have 8.9 MB here. That is on a relatively fresh install of ME. I cant imagine two years worth.

Ahh, thanks for the posts people, I can see that there are a wide range of differences, although I can see why Windows becomes "bloated" after time and eventually will slow the system down to a degree. I also see why there are some users that do a total format and reinstall periodically.
BFlurie: Lets pick that brain of yours, seems like you have some registry experience, Please check for the new topic in this section on "Restoring the Registry"
thanks again.
