Question Win2K and Abit BH-6 Can a fast shutdown be done?

How can you tell WIN2K Pro to shut down and walk away? I get the it is now safe to shut off your machine message, but my Power button will not respond. Are the drivers for my mobo power management features wrong? I have edited the registry to tell Win 2K to allow shutdowns.

Have you enabled the ACPI in the bios? Do you have the most recent version of your bios? Are all of your motherboard drivers Win2K approved?

    Question

Bios is recent, ACPI is enabled. I can't remember if it shut down before and after I installed all my apps and new drivers. Tried a repqir and it didn't correct it so now I'm wondering if I should do a clean install and go from there?

Put new bios from ABIT, (**** their page is slow), it worked. Thanks.

As I understand it, Win2K is installed as "Standard PC" by default? I had to run Setup and choose the right type when installing. (Only hanging to "ACPI Computer" in system properties was not a good idea, the system never booted after that.)
Durinng the install, when the screen says "Press F6 to install...", press F5 and choose the right system.

Alright, here is what I did.
Updated the BIOS on the mobo to latest.
Formated and did a fresh install of WIN2K.
    System shuts down perfectly.
Checked default Computer Type, it is ACPI PC.
Loaded my apps, drivers for video, and BAM!, no more shutddown again. I am worried though because my Snooze light on my case stays lit after a system check on boot up. So Strip, I'll try it tonight when I get home. I'll post the results.

    Ahem,
Loaded my apps, drivers for video, and BAM!, no more shutddown again
This means that one of the Apps you installed or one of the drivers you installed is not ACPI compliant. Something is hanging the shutdown routine up.

    Cool

MntSnow, Thnx but uhhh, no. After every app install, I reboot to see what one is causing the problem. I now have it shutting down on its own, but the snooze light on my case stays lit while the box is running. This leads mne to believe somewhere, something isn't right. I can live with it, but it isn't right you know. Well, still trying and will post what I find out.
