loaded win 98 in new mach, on post get notice of problem. vnetbios.vxd. any idea what, where, it is??? even did a find file, no result.

Alondra. The Vnetbios.vxd is a virtual device driver that is required for your networking (even dialup requires this file) It is in the "netcab #8 or #9 cab file if memory services me right) You can run the SFC and use it to extract that file automatically or do it manually and place it in the Windows/system folder.

That is a BIOS issue. download and install the latest and greatest bios for your motherboard...or it could be a bad flash.....But with you saying it always happens AFTER shutting down I would also say you need to replace the battery on your motherboard

the board is a "president" (dead company,)
mod#p54sa(b) a pentium board, so doubt any bios upgrade available, and Ive never flashed a bios. I have searched every MM of that board and cant find a battery, (unless its under the CPU) will set the clock exact and see if it loses time. every thing else works fine, other than the date,

downloaded the file as you sugested, to a floppy, then to my docs. it wants to know what I want to use to open it? Im sort of dumb.
the only thing I can find on thr mobo is a shinny gadget about 1/2"x3/8"x 1/8" with two wires, says TXC 24,000 F20 on it, put my meter on it and 1 1/2volt scale get no reading, so dont know if its a battery, seems to be glued or soldered to the board. would think should get some reading.

Some old boards have batteries that don't look anything like a regular battery. Look for something that looks like a square tootsie roll, thats removable with 2 wires coming off it. (sorry about that discription, it's the only thing I could think about)
Just because the board is no longer being made, don't give up hope on the BIOS yet.
Here is a little utility that has worked great for me, I keep it on a floppy to use in any system.

It's the one called "BIOS Identifier" extract the zipped file onto a floppy, put it in that system your working on and give it a shot. It will give you information about the motherboard, the manufacture, the BIOS type, version, date, etc.

That thing you found would be too small for a battery, possibly it's a temp probe.
The file I suggested is a Zip, or compressed file. It requires a program such as Win-Zip to extract the working program. I don't know why they did that, it's pretty small to begin with.
I think your on the right track with trying to reset the time and replacing the battery. If you want to find your BIOS info, you should see it on the first screen when you start the system, the same screen that has the memory count. To get the screen to stop, press the "pause" button, Pressing the "enter" key will make it continue.
I would be glad to send that utility to you uncompressed and ready to use, if you wish. If you are reluctant to recieve an .exe file from a stranger, perhaps a friend of yours could extract it for you. The only advantage to that utility is that it shows all the information on one screen, and shows the website URL to get a BIOS update in some cases.
Keep digging, that battery has to there somewhere.

found the darn thing, got a tip from mrc it is a dallas real time. big black gadget, with a picture of a clock on it. has been suggested I let the mach run a few hours, may recharge it, will try, thanks for the dope on the prog, dont have an unzip prog on this mach, If you can send unziped as attachment , would be great,
