Modem problems with Linux!!

I am assuming an internal ISA bus modem that is plug&play:

Configuring your modem should be easy if you physically jumper the modem as "NON-plug&play" - you should be able to do this and assign it to COM2,IRQ3; next, as you reboot disable the onboard COM2 in your BIOS.

Now, when you are in Linux (AND I am assuming you are using KDE "windows") Use the dial up networking tool, this is probably called kppp or possibly "dialup" or some such thing. Go into setup and specify the modem setting as being = to COM2, or "ttys1" or whatever. Next test you modem.

Of course you will have to reconfigure your MSWindows to the new modem settings and remove the old.

I have Linux 6.0 Mandrake.My modem is an IBM mwave 33.6 data fax VOD. I cannot get on the internet with Linux but it works if I go to Windows operatating system.What information do I need to make this work?I don't even know where to find information Linux needs to get on internet
