    That flicker thing...

Hey, I have gone for a month and a half now without any Windows 98 probs... but now, my system is noticeably turning gooberish. i.e., when I minimize windows, they will 'flicker' about ten times before they get the job done. This is with every window! Once the programs are up, they run fine...
    Here are my system specs:
    PIII 450 (runs at 451...)
    128 mb PC100
    1600x1200 in 32-Bit Color, ATI Rage 128 XPERT 128 (English) Ver. 4.00 (32mb)
    14.4 gig hd
Creative labs sound card (can't remember which right off hand.. if you need exacts, post)
Any other info will be posted as I remember it needs to be or as you ask.

I have installed netscape navigator about a week ago... probs didn't start till about two days ago. I have 'cleaned' my hd... if you can help, please do. I realize that a 450 isn't anything anymore, but it shouldn't be acting this way in an OS designed to run with Pentiums!

    I HATE MICROSOFT.

Since I posted this (two minutes ago ha!), I found that when I go with no background, just black, the flicker thing goes away... that is bull, as a PIII, or a PII, or a K6-2 should all have the power to support a measley background... What gives?

Try updating your video drivers, or, try dropping your resolution, putting the background back on.

I don't know if this is even related, but my K6-2 350 won't do stretch wallpaper with active desktop on. The wall paper just goes wiiieeeeeerrrddd.

Any chance you took that new netscape over to the Seti@home and installed their screen-saver? If you set up Seti to run in the back-ground all of the time, a graphic intensive GUI like Win 9X will flicker posting a new window while multi-threading the Seti computations in the back-ground.

You might want to crank down your screen resolution as well which will greatly cut back on the system resources needed to post new windows.
