Has anyone come across the beta version available for d/l? If so is it worth the effort? Livewire
to get windows 2000 you need to order the beta version from microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/preview/order.asp
it costs like 60 or 70 dollars U.S. personally, i dont think it is worth it. there arent very many drivers out and support for very much hardware out there. and in emailing some hardware companies (like diamond, creative labs, etc..) they arent making any win2k drivers for their hardware until the final release of win2k, and then they plan on STARTING to make drivers....
I've got the beta3 of Win2000, and most of the drivers I'm using, are either the Win98, or the WinNT 4 drivers. I've had Win2k on both my home machine, and work machine for a month and a half or so now, and all is well.
I did have a problem with Easy CD Creator, though. I emailed Adaptec, and they sent me a patch that needs to be installed before Creator to use it with Win2k, worked great.
Thanks for the info. I think I'll keep my greenbacks. That's exactly what I need. To spend my time chasing down drivers, undocumented program features and such. Spend it on something more worth while, I've been eyeing linux for awhile. Oh yeah it's free. --Livewire--
