Need HELP with Red Hat 6.0 INSTALLATION !

Hi,

I just bought a boxed-set RH6.0 last week.

After spending the entire weekend on it, I still couldn't get it to work.

The problems:

1) I do not know what video adapter I have and I am using an old generic Packard Bell monitor not on the provided list. Therefore, when the XConfigurator comes up, I do not have the information it needs. As a result, whether I choose to Probe or Not Probe, my screen just goes blank !

2) When I ignore the screen problem and proceeded to boot into LILO and Linux, I ended up with a 'localhost login:' prompt ..... What am I supposed to type here ? I was never asked to give a login name to begin with. I've only been asked for a root password during installation and I've given Red Hat a password for that.

3) When I tried to get rid of Red Hat and its partitions using fdisk, it couldn't delete the Extended DOS partitions due to Logical Drives. And after I tried to delete the Logical Drives as well, it still couldn't wipe out the Extended Partitions anyway. What is the deal here ? Am I stuck with having to type 'DOS' at the LILO prompt everytime I want to get into my Windows 98 environment ? Please help me clean out Linux from my system, so that I can do the installation again from a clean slate.

To answer question 2, your user name is "root" and the password is the one you entered during installation. For the monitor setup just choose custom, that is if you know what your monitor can do.

Starting with #2:
at the prompt type root then password.
#3 Go ahead and do the startup installation with Redhat. Redo partitions from there making the partions dos. To get rid of LILO now - boot upto or down from Win to dos prompt. type C:\>fdisk /mbr press enter.

UPDATE:

Since my post yesterday, there has been some developments .....

1) The graphics card and monitor issue still hasn't been resolved.

However, I've been able to find out more info. The graphic card is a ATI All-in-Wonder, which according to Red Hat's own website, works with the XF86_Mach64 server. The monitor is a Packard Bell PB8538SVGA, which according to Packard Bell's website, could do a maximum resolution of 1024x768(interlaced), 800x600(non-interlaced), 640x480. It also has a horizontal frequency of 31.5/35.2/35.5 KHz and a vertical frequency/refresh rate of 50-90 Hz.

Even with all these input for the XConfig, I still ended up with errors !

3) Received numerous hints and should be resolved once Problem #1 is out of the picture.

That is wierd that you video card does not work because that is the same video card that I am using.
