NT startup error message

Just when I thought it was safe to turn on the computer...

Since my last problem was solved (thanks again guys!), I've had a new one appear. I've been downloading quite a bit of shareware to get my new system fully functional... browsers, FTP clients, WinZip, InoculateIT PE, etc. The system is generally working better than ever.

However, the only glitch is that one of the installed programs is trying to load at startup with an incorrect shortcut. I get a message stating "Cannot find C:\Program or one of its components." Obviously the correct path would be something in C:\Program Files, but there must have been some buggy programming.

I can't find where this is loading from! I've scoured the Registry, Win.ini, System.ini and the Startup folders, all to no avail. Any ideas?

My guess is that it is in fact from the Registry, but I'm not that familiar with it, so I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. I don't even know which of the many programs caused the message. I suppose I could just start uninstalling everything, but with that buggy programming, it might not go away anyway! Help!

You might try looking at the event viewer (Start - Programs - Admistrative Tools - Event Viewer) and see if you can pin-point the offending service. I had this error once, but can't remember what the cure was.

Thanks for the reply, but the Event Viewer doesn't show any error. Do I need to set it to log something that it is not currently?
