    Win98 Kernel Problem

I have 2 problems related to a kernel file. the file is: krnl386.exe and 2 programs need it. One is solitare (like if I really care of it) and the other is the Desktop Themes. I tried getting it off from the install cabs, but when I replaced it windows will not run. It only shutdowns just after loading config.sys and autoexec.bat rutines.

Wanna try us another krnl386.exe from another computer, but i'm not really sure if this file becomes machine specific as other kernel files. Any ideas besides reinstalling?

Did you replace this file through "System File Checker" ?
I'm wondering how you know its bad.
From Run tpye sfc and enter and see if it finds a problem.

Already tried... I replaced lots of files that were left out date and so on. It never detected the krnl386.exe as being corrupted or out of date.

Kernel files are such a headache!

Used the kernel file and windows starts-up faster... pretty strange, but the problem stays... it most be a dll, vxd or anyother link file that makes creates the chaos...

Is there any program that can trace a program activites since it is run... you know the files it access, modifies, etc.

I really want to know what is making this strange behavior. I don't care anymore to fix the programs... but I really want to know what is going on before an important application gets the same error.
