Win 98 2ED full install
I have procurred a Win982ED full install disc, but silly me already has win98 running. Is there a means whereby I can install over the top of my existing installation without having to reload all those programs/drivers/updates etc!?
I know I can delete things in the registry to force a hardware reload.... is there some step similar for software?
The disk tells me "You already have a OS in this computer"
(Tell me something I don't know!)
TIA
Mick

I hate to say, but it's still much much better to do a fresh installation for less messy and headache in future. Blame micro$soft.

Go to a Dos Prompt and rename the win.com file.
Call it something like win.old, then reboot
the computer with your boot disk in and run setup,When it asks you which directory you want to install in,MAKE SURE THAT YOU SELECT OTHER LOCATIONS,AND THEN POINT IT TO THE WINDOWS DIRECTORY.(DO NOT SELECT THE DEFAULT OF WINDOWS.000)this will allow you to complete the install and it will work just like the upgrade but you won't have the ability to restore back to the original os.
