Server Setup
Hi,
I am setting up a dedicated Linux based server for internet sites. I plan to sell space on the hard disk to
customers. I have a place for the server booked in a company - they supply me with the connection,
power, e.t.c. and I pay them per month.
Anyway, I want to know how to create virtual domains - the main domain would be bkehoe.com for which I
would have to create 2 sub domains, e.g. ns.bkehoe.com and ns2.bkehoe.com for the domain registry. I get 2 IP addresses with
the package, so that would be an IP address for each of them which would let me make domains. I know
how the addresses are resolved - basically when someone goes to, e.g. bkehoe.com, ns.bkehoe.com is
contacted, and asked for bkehoe.com's web site. Now what I want to know is how to set the server up to
allow this, e.g. do I need special software?
Also, if we find out how to set up virtual servers for users, how do I create sub-domaisn for them e.g.
sub.domain.com.
I have installed Apache 1.3.3 and RedHat 5.2. I have CGI, sendmail, perl, php, e.t.c set up already and
when I get the above set up I will bring the server to the company and pray!
Thanks,
Brendan.
P.S. I have posted this to multiple BBSs.
