    So, who has installed Beos?

I'm working up the grumbah to install Beos 4.5 here soon. Anyone have any tips/tricks/sacred mantras to share? I doubt I'll need the chicken bones and goat's blood I use during Microsoft OS installs, but if someone knows something I doubt let me know.

Is 4.5 much different from 4?? I installed R4 on my hdd, but don't use it as I can't get my internal modem to work. When I get an external modem or an ethernet connection to the Internet, BeOS will get used but not right now. Also I couldn't get my soundblaster vibra 16 to work... There goes 1 of the main uses of my computer. d/ling Mp3's and making cd's from them...

I have used 4.0 and will have 4.5 very soon. 4.0 was very limited in video card support - in fact I had to upgrade cards on account of BeOS. Sound is a snap if you have a compatible card, ironically the cheap OPTI 82C931 is supported - I use the Ensoniq Audio PCI 1371 and I had to download a driver - no sweat. Modem support was a breeze, but like Linux the Winmodems are not yet supported. ISA Plug and play is actually easier than a jumpered modem, but you can configure a "new jumpered device." I understand the version 4.5 includes all the multimedia stuff that was lacking in 4.0 and also a secure web browser. All in all a pretty amazing OS and lightening fast. The only drawback is that there are so few applications and hardware support. I can't wait to get my hands on 4.5.

Oh, BTW, most standard Linux/UNIX commands seem to work in a terminal window.

    Peace Bro!!
