Switching from M$ Windows to RedHat Linux 6.0..

Wow. I can't believe I'm actually changing, but it's finally time. After the UCITA was passed, I am getting as far away (as possible) from Micro$oft and their O/S.

What kind of immediate changes should I notice? I'm sure I'll find out all the other little kicks and quirks later. And, IE4.0 and other software, will it run on Linux?

If I can find a site for it, I'll post a place to download a CD ISO image file of it. (Legal of course, Linux is free ya know) You could also do an FTP search at ftpsearch.lycos.com for something like redhat6.iso and you should find it. Good luck downloading 600+ megs if you are on a dialup link though. ;P

It's only $7.50 + $4.00 shipping. Not too bad considering it would take me a month to download! It also comes with Corel Word Perfect 8 or something like that. Really great CD.

There are many things in the microsoft monopoly that you will miss. I would suggest dual booting at least for another couple of years. I hope that things will continue to change and all software vendors will port applications (and games) to the Linux OS. Everyone stands to loose a great deal if MS rules the world.

Try www.cheapbytes.com they have a good deal. Red Hat version 6.0 for $7.0 including shipping. Thats where I got my linux from but too bad I cant get it to install.. for some odd reason I cant partition my harddisk.

like totally different commands etc
but amazingly they actually make sense
forget serious gaming
but welcome free dev software
included is C++ , perl etc
and you get the code to do what u want
there is a nirvana

If you don't want to wait to order it, SAMS Club carries mandrake 6.0 which is fully compatible with redhat and has some added features, such as utilities for installing on a computer that is already running 98. It sells for about $20 and has good documentation.

Anyways I picked up The Complete Linux 6.0

Comes with 3 CD's:
1st is Linux install
2nd is Extra rpm's to install
3rd is PQmagic and bootmagic which lets you keep your existing dos partitions.

sells for 28.95 +S&H
I ended up paying 44.50 ( price + S&H + COD charge)

you can buy just the individual cd with no paper docs for around 1.89 each cd + S&H.

I'm mainly posting to find out if 800XL ever found a site with the ISO of Linux6. I was unable to find any when I did a search. I already bought RH 5.2 a while back, but was hoping I could just give Linux another try buy installing the most recent version (I had all kind of trouble trying to complie the updated Kernel a while back).

Right now I don't have Linux installed, but I'd like to give it another shot
