    Kernel compilation errors

I finally sat down and learned how to compile myself a shiny new kernel. It ends with the following dump of info:
    *******************************************
tools/build bootsect setup compressed /vmlinux.out CURRENT > zImage
    Root device is (3, 6)
    Boot sector 512 bytes
    Setup is 3540
    System is 552 kB
System is too big. Try using bvimage or modules.
    make [1]:*** [zImage] Error 1
    make [1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.5/arch/i386/boot'
    make:*** [zImage] Error 2
    ******************************************
Well I am wondering if I have run out of disk space. I am using a fairly simple layout; one 400MB root partition, one 700MB user partition, and one 50MB swap (I have 256MB of RAM). I wanted to make a new partition in the empty space on my drive and copy the source tree there, but I am having troubles using mkefs2. I have read as much of the HOWTO's as I can absorb and I havent found any info as to what my 'make' errors mean. What am I missing here? I am using RedHat 6.0. Any help will be gladly appreciated

I think the system is trying to tell you the kernel is too big. Instaed of doing a "make zImage" try "make bzImage".

Yea im a dumbass. I got busy trying to find out what "make bzImage" was and forgot to try it. That worked fine, no errors after I installed the kernel. I have a friend that thinks NTFS is so secure cuz "...no other operating systems can see it...". Well, he was blown away when my new linux kernel mounted it without a snag! I have tried to explain to him its not that secure, but he wouldn't listen until now.
Now a new problem... anyone know how to make lilo boot partitions after cyl 1023? I just got this new 17GB hard drive... Best deal I ever seen! $50 plus a trade on my 8.4GB!
