how does ya K6-2 handle Tribes2?
I have been thinkin about getting tribes2. But my major worry is that it would perform poorly on my machine. I have a K6-2 500@550, Geforce2 MX and 192MB RAM (CAS2)
Does anyone have similar specs and is willing to tell my how their's performs?
Thanks.
How does it perform on your low end machine?

I came here wondering the same exact thing and was about to make a post until I read yours lemonhead. I am interested in tribes 2 but I only have a k6/2 500, 128 ram, vodoo3 3ooo, and DSL. I dont wanna buy the game and then have to auction it off cause it doesnt work.
Can anyone tell us anything?
How would you rate tribes on a scale of 1-10?
My favorite game is Counter-Strike by far.

If you have no replies, I can borrow it from a friend and try it on my 550 K6-2 within a few days.

I just bought a new Asus mobo and 800 duron but cant install it untill weekend becuase I forgot I need new ATX case and just wondering if my 15 to 30 fps average @ 1024 res was good for voodoo 3 on a k6 or ****ty?

It will perform very poorly on your system, but will be playable with all the options turned down. There are a few trick and tips out there to get this game to run smoothly on a low end system. My flatemate runs T2 on his P3 533, tnt ultra, 128mb, although he does play with all options turned down, most turned off, it just doesn't seem the same or as satisfying. The reason I upgraded my PC was for T2. I can play with all options aside from EAX sound and limited to 1024 x 768 32bit, on my Athlon 800, 256pc133, geforce 2mx (175/200), I get about 30 -60 fps overal. Because your k6 550 has no where near the processing power of the p3 533, I would think wisely about getting this game as it may disapoint you, if you are a T1 fan and want T2 bad, get an upgrade.
T2 is still a resource hog and Dynamix have been lots of patches for trying to fix this but still they have not come up with a good formula, it seems instead of fixing the engine they have just been changing maps by removing trees and buildings etc.

i have 192MB RAM, will that alleviate some of the problems your flatmate would have had?
I run my Geforce2 MX @ 196/392 (core/ddr ram)
Japer what kinda frame rate do you get in CS?
I get about 20-40fps normally, but if it's a small map then it can hit 50 or 60. I run everything at 1024x768 cos it's not my fill rate that's slowin me down, it's my CPU

Well i just completed the tweaks that VERT had posted. The Gameplay is much better. I have almost all settings 2/3 the way and all is good at the moment. The only problem now is that i dont know what the hell i'm doing. I mean I dont have a clue! I cant hit anthing. Many people have told me that tribes 2 is better than CS but at the moment I feel that is false. I'm no CS pro and I still consider myself a noob but CS was a blast right out of the box! I'm thinking either this game is just not my kind of game or it needs to grow on me! I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Tribes 2 is a totally different game to CS, so it would not be fair to say that one is better than the other as they are both played differently. Tribes 2 has a much bigger learning curve than that of CS, there is a lot more to do and master. I have been playing since Tribes 1 first came out and can be called a Tribes junkie! If there is anything you wish to know gameplay wise or other just ask and i'll see what information I can give you.
You could always goto http://www.Tribalwar.com forums, but I have found these to be full of complainers. Another site to check out for News is http://www.planettribes.com and a site I oftern visit is http://www.snaggs.com which is a Aussie/ New Zealand Trbes 1/2 site.

Ok, I went out and bought tribes 2 today. Its $34 dollars so i figured i would chance it. It doesnt run very well at all. The gameplay is choppy. I did turn everything all the way down and even off which did make it more smooth but at the same time less fun. I really havent taken the time to try and tweak my comp for this game but i'm sure I can figure something to make a little better. If not I will be selling the game on ebay, wal-mart want take it back if its opened.
As far as CS. I stick around 30fps. fluncate from 16 to 60 max @ 800x600 res. I know my system aint the "bomb", but i'm very happy with the gameplay I get on all other games. Tribes 2 is a different story though!
Even though my pc is a "low end" pc, It beats the hell out of playstation 2 or any other console system in my opinion!

Tribes 2 fails to run well on ALL 3dFX based hardware because the game itself does not support Glide natively. This can't be overcome.

400 watt power supply unit
must have set you back a few bucks
i have a miserly 145W.
Do you think that my low wattage power supply will be hindering my overclocking?
I can't seem to hit 600 (and i'm loathe to, seeing as it crashed windows last time i tried it and i lost my black and white save game )
