    Quake2 Fps

Hi, I have an 8mb Ati Rage pro video card and when I play quake 2 with opengl or in the standard video mode i can't seem to get over 13fps. What could be wrong? I have a p166 with 64mb of ram and 7.5gb hd (win98). I get major frame rate slowdowns when in a large fire fight. I NEED HELP! What do I do?

You throw down some flow for a faster 3D accelerator. Not to mention, a Faster CPU. The 166 is all but dead when it comes to games.

That sounds about right. My ATI All-In-Wonder Pro 8Meg(same Rage pro chipset) gets about 18 FPS on my P2/266, 64Meg, 8Gig.

I'm thinking about getting a P3/450 considering the way the price keeps dropping on that (about $250 right now if you shop it correctly). If not that, then I'll move up to the AIW128Pro 32M when it comes out later this year.

    Get a V2... I got about 45-50FPS on my old P166 - A faster CPU would help also I get well over 100FPS now with a V3 2000 and a C366 @ 458 (I got about 90-95FPS with a V2)

    AuraEdge-

    In the console type:
    timedemo 1
    demomap demo1.dm2

(or whatever the demo's filename is)

banshee is 3dfx quake likes 3dfx in opengl.
Plus it is V2 and has more than 8mb of ram right? A better video card does help. Even if you get a V1 3dfx card. You can get them used real cheap now too. Or you can get the tnt2 or tnt3 cards they do real well at fast clock speeds.
    thats my 2 bits

Get a used Diamond Monster (Voodoo I). You can get them pretty cheap nowadays. That's what I use (tweaked out of course) and I get 33fps in Quake2. If I had a monitor bigger than 14", I'd buy a newer card because the voodooI is only capable of 640x480 graphics. I'm also useing an AMD K6-2-350 though. So I'm sure that helps. Also, try overclocking your CPU. You should be able to get that 166 to 200 without much trouble.

Xstar get the Quake2 tweak guide available here at sysopt under the cool software section on the home page. It covers what needs to be changed on the Voodoo card to get your best FPS. It also shows you how to find out what FPS you're getting in Quake2.

Right now I'm getting about 12 fps with my 12 meg V2 SLI rig and I hope to get it down to about 2 fps eventually.

FPS is frags per second, isn't it?

I'm cornfused! ABill you say that you want to go from 12fps too 2fps. Is a lower Number better or worse in fps.

a Bill was just joking... A higher FPS (FRAMES per second) is better (ie. smoother) then a low one.

    Hey I just read over 100fps with a v3 card ?
    I'm only getting 27fps with a v5 5500 , my system is:

    Amd k6-2 3d processor
    500mhz
    192ram
    thats the basics ..

So what can I do to get all this fps I keep reading about?
