    Diablo II lock up

Greetings. When playing DII, my comp will lock up. Sometimes I am able to play for hours, other times for only 20 minutes before this happens. I have no choice but to hard boot when this occurs. I do not experience this problem in other games or applications. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Brian

I have had this problem on occassions with Diablo2 as well. Have tried Cel,tnt1 (then tnt2)vid card,128Mb ram and have tried new P3 866 with VIA Chipset m/bd (now replaced with Intel chipset bd), 256Mb, Geforce2MX and have reinstalled vid card drivers. I am using direct8 on both systems (maybe thats the problem?) Even after formatting drives and doing fresh installs of OS and games (including Diablo2 update patches), Diablo2 still locks up. In my case it will only do it once or twice in a fortnight.
The Blizzard site doesnt have much info re this problem. Maybe someone will get back to here with a sure fire fix.

greetings... i hope the lack of posts does not indicate that this problem can not be fixed or is unheard of. i have been trying to figure this out. the best i have been able to come up with is that my vid card is overheating- so i moved the card and have air circulating on it. this has not helped. a little more info: i am running directX 7 (thanks for previous suggestion), win98se, have 128 ram, the vid card is a voodoo 3 3000 (i believe, could be 2000) and the cpu is a celery 600. i was actually able to play for almost 3 hours last night before it froze. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've had Diablo II run sluggishly before because my HD was too full...
I cleaned it up, and after that it has run fine....

Maybe that might help if you have a full HD?

Hello Moderator/s... smiles- can this post be moved over to the technical forum as it also pertains to that area... i am not sure whether i will recieve some of the "guru's" insight/experience being in this category... not to knock the gaming forum (as i am part of it), it is just that i believe this to be more technical than game related... didnt want to mis-post... thanks

Mortis -- Diablo 2 locks up for me occasionally too. Not as often as it used to though, and not as often as it does for you. But it is a pain in the rear. I actually even lost a level 79 hardcore character on USEast several weeks ago from it

It may be overheating. To be sure, take off the cover and have a big housefan blow inside the case. If it still locks up, the problem is elsewhere.

It won't tell you where, but at least you will eliminate a possibility.

I have fixed this problem repeatedly. Let me get some data from you:

What video card are you using?

What drivers for that video card?

a little more info: i am running directX 7 (thanks for previous suggestion), win98se, have 128 ram, the vid card is a voodoo 3 2000 and the cpu is a celery 600. Running drivers that came with the card. Switched the slot the card was in and have forced air running across it, hasnt made a difference. I also thought about overheating- case is off and have fans running on it. CPU has not been overclocked. Hope this helps.
