Unhappy My IBM Aptiva and Half-Life crash

Hey all, I'm new here. Well, I have an IBM Aptiva with an AMD 475 MHz processor, SiS 8 Mb. integrated video and integrated sound. When I play Half-Life, I always get this thing where I freeze and the sound loops and I can't control my mouse or keyboard and I keep going in the direction I am in until I run into a corner and stop. Then the rest of the game goes on without me! This even happens on TFC. I have to restart the computer. I think it has something to do with my installation, overheating, and a screwy CD drive. When I first installed it it couldn't find the cd bindings key so I went to Sierra's site and they told me to turn down the read ahead and the speed of my CD drive. That seemed to have fixed the install. It's a micro case and there are no vent holes except for the ones on the side and the only fan is for the power supply. The computer is in a hot, humid room and it gets around 85 degrees. I have a grounded power stip and its new and it doesn't flicker so its okay. I am serious, no joke. Sometimes I turn on the air conditioning. I also recently installed a hard drive cooler but it isn't effective because the hard drive is installed in a gondola(cradle) and it isn't being reached by the cooler. Please help me, I've been very frustrated since November. Please at least humor me with a reply, I've been typing for a while now and I need to reconnect.

Try opening your case. Do you mave a temp monitor? Some motherboards have them built in. I had a problem in half-life like that. I would hit esc to the menu and return and everything worked. Try changing you video software setting too.

Okay, the keyboard and mouse don't respond. The only thing I can do is restart my computer. I tried opening the case but it still did it. I don't know what to do! Do you think it is a video problem? I am getting a new video card and probably a fan.

    Thumbs down

Well you have enough processor power for the game but I bet your vid card is maxing out and holding you back, Get a voodoo 3 3000 or 2000 and when you can afford it another 64 meg ram and you should find that games run Way better!

What version of Half-Life do you have? I remember this happened to me when I first installed the game, but after I upgraded it to the latest version, it didn't happen anymore.

I upgraded it to the latest version but I don't know if it was a corrupt download. I can see the version on the top right of the screen, is that it?
