    Clereon 400mhz With gaming

Hey i was interested in buying a celeron with 400mhz and i was wondering if anyone out there has one and plays with it. mostly games like half-life, rainbow six, and quake III. i was wondering if the celeron plays smooth or should i just go for a pentuim II?

I have a Celeron 400ppga and it runs those games plus more....Unreal Tournament is a blast.
Make sure you have the ram to back it up, I picked up 128mb pc100 ram and it runs great.

Just make sure you get a good video card too, and everything will fly!

Get the celeron, overclock it if you can, and be sure to have at least 128 megs of ram and you'll laugh at the pentium

I will admit that celeron processors are good if you are on a buget. However they will NEVER be better that Pentium II, III proccessors. Celeron are an example of a poor mans cpu. Pentium II, III cpus can run many more things at the same time and remember that jurky mouse pointer when a big application is loading (Pentium 1 cpu's), my P3 chip never lets this happen even with 64mb ram. Celeron chips are all fine and dandy if the rest of your components are good. Noone can say "Celeron" chips are better than P3 or 2 chips in any respect.

    Poor man you say?
    More like Budget-concious!

I would not agree with your statement as celeron being a poor mans CPU.

    Lets see
A cel 366's (majority OC to 550) low price on www.pricwatch.com is 37 dollars, and 17 bucks for a FDP32 w/ fan to get it there, and a 15 dollar slocket to make it fit - Total $64

A PIII 450 (majority OC to 558) low price on www.pricwatch.com is $190, and $50 for an alpha P3125 w/ 2 fans to get it there - Total $240

...174 more dollars for 4x as much slower L2, SSE, and 8 Mhz?
    just a bit steep eh?

    Thumbs down

UUUUhhmmmm...NO First of all I wasn't talking about overclocking. I feel overclocking is stupid and besides it voids your warrenty and reduces cpu life span. I know I know. You think that you will not have it for very long anyway before you upgrade, well you probley also know that oc'ing is hard on other components of an oc'ed system. Pentium II,III cpu's may not be cheap but you can't sit there and tell me celeron is of high quality.
