V770 or VooDoo
I want a new graghics. What does this site think of the VooDoo vs the V770? I have the VooDoo2 and I like it. Also, I use a joystick but would like a change. Mouse and keyboard, track ball? Has anyone used the Space orb Trackball? I would like to hear from anyone on all that. Thx for your help!

If you have a Voodoo2 card already, I think I'd keep that for now, and wait till the next generation 3d cards come out. Nvidia (the NV10) and 3dfx (Voodoo4) both have cards coming out that should be even better than a TNT2 Ultra. Unless you have to have it now, of course, then get the Hercules Dynamite TNT2 Ultra, which is supposed to be the fastest out now - so says Computer Gaming World.
I have 2 12mb V2's - I'm waiting for the NV10 myself.
If you want the joystick for first person shooter games, then I'd say get the Madcatz PantherXL - www.pantherxl.com . It just rocks for games like Quake2 and Half-Life. I suck with mouse/keyboard, but I'm better than most people (ahem) at fps games with the PantherXL. You can get it at blackmarket.gamespy.com/blackmarket/product.asp?pfid=40101 for about $50.

Ummm, What is this Hercules TNT2 Ultra you speak of? Last time I checked, Hercules doesn't exist anymore. x¿x <--- Hercules. They went Bankrupt. If you want a cheap solution, go V3 2000. If you want something a little more expensive, go with the Xentor Maxi-Gamer TNT/2 Ultra, around $250. Or wait for the GayForce256 cough $300+ cough. hehe

If you are in the need of a need video card go for the Viper. Since you have a voodoo2 you shouldn't have any problem. Besides you will be well equiped. Viper for DirectX and voodoo for Glide. Or wait for the GeForce256. It will be expensive... but it will be far better than Voodoo4/Napalm.

Pansion, how do you know the GeForce will be better than the next 3dfx card? Do you know something you aren't telling us? Spill the beans damnit. The only thing we know the V4 will have is full screen AA, The T-buffer, texture compression, 32-bit z-buffer and 32mb of onboard RAM. Those are all the things 3dfx has released so far. So, how do you know the GayForce will be better? For all any of us know the V4 will be twice as fast and be able to push twice as many polygons. Wait til they are both out, then we'll see what we get.

Well lets see... the Napalm may be faster and look nicer than its parents, but it really doesn't have anything that will make me go and buy it. T-buffer... ok, Texture compression... ok, 32-bit rendering... ok too, but is there anything new? no. Any innovation? no. 3Dfx is only putting everything that their cards have been missing.
The geforce will not depend on CPU as Napalm and NVidia cards had and has better visual quality. Maybe Napalm will look nicer, but eventually Nvidia will push more triangles.
Anyway lets see the reviews... maybe I'm wrong and 3Dfx is still saving something for the end.

Geforce = shipping next month
Napalm/V4 = shipping next year
Hardware vs Vaporware.
Pantion covered the feature war side of things. 3dfx is playing catch up on features with this Napalm thing. Nvidia actually gets to innovate a substantially new thing this time. Ge-ometry. Full scene AA won't have anything on a scene rendered in 10x the polys.
3dfx may put some serious work into Napalm and it may be cool, but Nvidia has already raised the bar.

I have a CLabs VooDoo2 and I740 8MB AGP which is a reasonable setup. I've built a PIII 450 machine and used a V770. Excellent card, cheap, full of features and good quality/speed. I can't say whether you will see a huge difference over your existing setup though.

Hmm, I had a V2 8mb SLI setup, which I sold and bought a V770 Tnt2. I find that the V770 has better picture and the speed is great, I was worried at first about no glide, but almost every game out or comming out has openGL or D3D. I will wait till next years batch of cards till I decide to change from the V770.
