    It's more like cutting out a "No postage needed" stamp off an advertisement and using it.

    If you didn't like the way the license reads on the software, then dont use the software!

    Freeware is STILL copyrighted.
    Even freeware distribution states conditions, e.g. no fractioning of the software, or unauthorised modification, or claiming it as your own.
    I'm sure if companies REALLY wanted to, they could hammer people for pd utilities, mods etc that appear for so many games these days...
