Half Life

I have a lot of trouble with the controls in half life. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to se them up more efficiently or what is the best joystic/gamepad for that game.

The best configuration I have found to work, and this is what all my friends use. Use the keypad and the mouse. If you can grab a scrolling mouse, like an intellimouse do it. Okay set it up like this.

8 - move foward

4 - strafe left 6 - strafe right

2 or 5 - move back
(depends on what feels better)

3 - Duck

Mouse - button 1 - attack, fire, etc.
button 2 - jump
button 3(if you have it)
(save for a special bind)
(such as grapple in quake2)
scroll up - previous weapon
(if available)
scroll down - next weapon
(if available)

If you dont have a 3 button mouse or a scroll mouse, then just use the other keys on the keypad that feels the best for the commands you want. The most important is to keep 8,4,6,2,3 and the mouse buttons 1 and 2 what I said, those are the main things you need to move around with. Make sure mouse look is always on, and make sure always run is on, so you dont have to hold down another button to run away from someone or something.

I can't believe how efficient that setup is it is a whole lot more concise than the default settings. Thanks for the help.

most people use the left side ofthe keyboard as thier mouse is on the right side..just set up the 'q, e, z, c' slanted square as u would the keypad
Most people would use the WASD formation, using that as their respective arrow buttons. Since i play TFC alot, I use the scroller on my mouse a grenade button (once u master this, your just about triple your frags in TFC).
primeone is mwheel up and primetwo is mwhell down and mouse 3 is throwgren.
i also slapped a grenade timer onto the prime's so it counts down how long it takes to explode, so u can throw it right before it explodes and it blows up in thier face...kinda like hot patata
