Make sure everything is turned on in the game, 16 bit textures, High quality sound, etc. This is to get the best representation of your cpu and video card capabilties. Make sure your quake2 is updated to 3.20.
Load the game and press the tilde (~) key to bring down the console. Type "timedemo 1" then press enter. Next type "map demo1.dm2" or "map demo2.dm2" and press enter. This will run through the demo real fast and after its over will display the fps you got. To really test your fps, grab the crusher demo from a site like www.planetquake.com or something similar. Read the readme on how to put it in a directory, I think you put it in your quake2/base2q/maps directory or something like that, cant remember for sure, and do the same thing as above except type "map crusher.dm2" and you will get the worst condition in a quake2 game that you can get, this will test how good your cpu is and your video card.
Come on and register at www.hardwarecentral.com , if you havent already. I am registered there and help a lot more people cause I am there all the time.
