Help - Diablo keeps crashing. Why?
I have been playing Diablo for a couple weeks now and it crashes intermittently. Usually when going to different levels, etc. I think I'm getting bad cdrom reads and that kicks it out, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had problems running this on an AMD chip. I downloaded the latest patch. I have ver 1.07. No change. Still crashes. Last crash somehow corrupted my save game. This really pisses me off since now I have to start back from the beginning again. I was on level 6, how many levels are there total?
System:
FIC 503+ K6-2-350 (392)
C/L Graphics Blaster3D
Diamond Monster Voodoo1
32 meg ram
5.1 gig UDMA
DRT 24x (I think this drive is the problem)
C/L SB16
Any ideas on what the problem is? I wish I had another cdrom to swap out and see if that fixes the problem.

There are 16 levels. I've played on a couple of differnt machines. I even got it to work on a 486! But it was alittle choppy. The amd is'nt the problem here. Try this it might help. Hit ctrl +alt +delete and turn off everything except systray and explorer. That helped me when I played on p-100 with a 4x cd-rom. Hope this helps.

I've play this game for a long time and I've experimented this kind of problem. Do you have many icons on your desktop? If yes, throw some in the garbage. They take much conventional memory. This memory is used in the transfers beetwen the CD and the RAM. Probably why you have problem when changing level because the load is running.
