    CD burnin'

I've recently bought a Ricoh 20X/4X CD-R/RW and it's been very successful in making back-ups of my newest games...all except for Aliens Vs. Predator. Has anyone out there been able copy this game? Games are a rip-off if you can't back them up. Software is just too expensive to just use the original, ya know?

When a game comes on a CDROM, you don't need a back up. Just store the CDROM in a safe place.

When a game comes on a CDROM, I like to make a back up of it. The same goes for any software that I purchase. Nice response, Bill.

Bill I guess you are not into gameing - Since you would know some games require one to have the cd in, inorder to play the game - Forsaken is a good example - You can load the game on the hard drive - However in single player mode (with the patch) you still must leave the cd to to play.

Well Doc,Some games come copyright protected.
When you try to make a copy does it report the proper size of the cd?What happens when you attempt the burn? Some games just cannot be copied, this is to protect the maker from piracy.I understand the reason why ya want to copy but you may not be able to.
If you have a lot of HD space you can try a proggie called virtual cd.It acts like a cd drive and can copy a whole cd into a .vcd file and hence you have a backup.Once converted to a .vcd you can even install the game from this file and run it.(it thinks the .vcd file is the actual cd.)
Works really well but you can use up alot of HD space doing this.

I need to back up my CDs, I was about to buy a burner, but if you cannot copy them, screw that.

Thanks for the replies. I've finally copied Alien vs. Predator, and it worked perfectly. Don't loose hope cobain1crt...it works. I've burned titles like Half-Life and both of the Star Wars games.

If you buy a game and register it, contact the developer/distributer and they are usually willing to send you a back-up/replacement disk, or they used to. Just tell them the disk in the box was scratched or something. I haven't done it for a while, so good luck....

Some games are a breeze to back up
Halflife took me about 4 trys to get it to work for some reason...
And ive tryed to backup Commandos:BEL. In explorer, the cd regesters a hefty 2.2 gig
In CD writing program, it stands at 690MB
I got a 700mb CD-r, and it choked half way though the dupe...
Ive heard this from another Eidos game too..so i guess they do this to all thier games.

    Nutcase,

You can make legal copies of your playatation games....but (there always seems to be a BUT) you will have to get a "Mod" chip for your playstation to beable to use them....It has to do with the "autoboot/serial#" that is on the "original" cd. You can find the "mod" chips for sale all over the playstation web sites.
