    QUAKE11 AND HERETIC 11 PROBLEMS

When I play either quake2 or heretic2 the hard drive access light and the cdrom drive light both blink constantly slowing both games down quite a bit. If I disable music in the game everything runs fine with no fast blinking lights. With music enabled both games run real jerkily no matter what video card I use. I tried running the games with all my cards out except the riva but no change.
    My system:
    ABIT BH6 MB
    OVERCLOCKED 300A-450
CREATIVE LABS GRAPHICS BLASTER RIVA TNT AGP
SB LIVE VALUE PCI SOUND CARD
    2 STB VOODOO2 CARDS-SLI
    LT WIN MODEM ISA
    IBM DESKSTAR 4.3GIG
    QUANTUM BIG FOOT 6.4GIG
    AZZO 64MEG CAS2 125MHZ
    VIEWSONIC PS790 19" MONITOR
    HI-VAL 24X CD ROM DRIVE
All the cards and MB have the latest Bios and or drivers.
I even took out the riva and tried ati rage fury32mg and a stb velocity 128pci but to no avail.
I sure would appreciate some advice.Thanks.

Sounds like a swap issue, either set your swap file to a static value (like 256megs) or so, or upgrade to 128megs ram.

With sound off, you use less ram, hence less swapping... Just a thought.

Ram isn't the problem... try turning on DMA mode for the cd-rom drive in the control panel->system->device manager

you could also try going to the control panel->system->performance tab->file system->cd-rom tab->and changing the supplemental cache size to something smaller or larger maybe. And making sure the optamizing pattern is correct
