rc5 GUI vs.CLI

I have a PII450,win'98 and am running a GUI client 2.7106.436. What is THE fastest client to run on my machine? There are some new ones but the buffers aren't compatable and dist.net said to keep using the win32 cli till some unresolved issues with the gui can be addressed. What's the deal?

I just switched to the CLI client and it was worth a about .06Mkeys a second increase. Run your GUI client out of buffers, flush, then uninstall that slow dog. They should have a newer GUI version out sooner or later that will be a minimal difference in speed. Back when the versions were in sync there was really not much of a difference at all that I noticed.

Silby has stepped down as the Win32 GUI programmer. So right know the job is being handed over to bovine (the pproxy programer). It's going to take a while for him to cetch up. So there won't be a new GUI version for a while.

Add it to your christmas lists. Maybe santa can wip up a new version for us.

It would add approximately 18 countable blocks per 24 hours.

If you are going to use the GUI version, but want the speed of the CLI version. switch to v2.7105.432. It's got some connection bugs that were fix in version .436, that is why you can't find it on ftp.distributed.net anymore. But it is faster and you can still find it on my ftp. ftp://24.72.9.176/dcti/v2.7105/
