WinXP, Win98SE, a hub, a cable modem, and two questions

My roomate has Win98SE and I have WinXP. We decided to plug a cable modem into our hub and pay for two IP addresses using @home. Thats all working great. But for some reason we dont see eachother in the network neighborhood. The only way we can see eachother is if we do a computer name search or unk eachother. Is this right, or is their away to see eachother we cant seem to figure out.
The other thing is when he unk's me and trys to access my folders on WinXP he is prompted for a password. I never set a password i can remember. Any clues on that.

I apreciate in advance your time and your help.

XP is likely using user level security, as NT does. Set up a user account for him or enable the guest account.

As for Network Neighborhood, there are several kb articles on browsing issues on
    http://support.microsoft.com

It's not generally too much of an issue, but there are several variables involved. It might be quicker to glance thru the articles and see if any of them match.
