internet sharing with proxy apps

this is my setup. 2 pc's connected through patch cable. host is connected through cable modem and runs win98se. client runs 2000 pro.

well, i was running winproxy 4 with no problem, then for some reason my network connection on the client machine stopped working, i deleted the protocols and then re-installed them on the host only, because i run dual boot with 98 and 2000 on client and the network didnt work in either so i figured it was host problem. after that it didnt make a difference. then the other day i come in and my client machine is able to connect to the network, however no internet. so i reconfigured winproxy, and still it doesnt work. so i downloaded proxy+ and that does work, only if i set proxy setting in the apps that access the internet on client. before with ICS and winproxy, i never had to do that. now, i really dont care what proxy program i use, i just dont want to configure proxy settings on my client machine, cause the only program i can get to work is IE.
i really dont know what to do, i could use some help. thanks, Ben

oh happy day! finally, after reading the tutorial at practically networked and downloading sygate i got it to work, on both of my boot partitions. winproxy confused me, thinking it was actually a proxy server when it was NAT based.

I'm pretty sure sygate is NAT based as well. I use Wingate 4 pro since it is a true proxy server. Rather use MS proxy server, but not cost effective, hehe. I do like that with wingate i can open up UDP and TCP ports for services like dialpad.com and netmeeting. Plus if i want to purchase extra IP addresses in order to use things like PC Anywhere I can do that as well.
