DSL w in PPP Mode w/DHCP
Hello.
I am posting this for a friend so I hope I have all the information I need
3 of my friends are moving into the same place
They all have computers OF COURSE
They are using USWEST dsl service
It is in PPP mode, DHCP so they are grabbin the internal ips 10.0.0.2 etc...
If I remember correctly in PPP mode you setup IP pools so that's where the
10.0.0.2, 3, 4 come from
Their problem is
One friend, lets say on 10.0.0.2 wants to have a FTP server
One friend on 10.0.0.3 wants a webserver
One friend wants a FTP server
The question...:
Anyone know how to define the pool(if that is the solution)so when someone
from the Internet wants person 10.0.0.2's ftp server they actually get it
Anyone know how define the pool so when someone wants the webserver from
1.0.0.3 they'd get the right person?
OR how would someone from a outside source such as the Internet address 10.0.0.2's comp (3, 4, 5, 6, etc...)
My friend says he has reviewed the docs and couldn't find the usage to do
this.. and it has been sometime since I have had PPP mode or DSL
Soooo thanks for any information and of course if I missed somethin please
ask for more details and I will get what is needed

Are they using a DSL router because I have one that I can easly do what they want on my machines.

Right.. I'd recommend a cable/dsl router also.
With the router, you could then assign specific ports to each of the friends ftp servers.. for instance...
Friend #1 port 2323
Friend #2 port 2121
Tell the router to forward all requests to the above ports to the proper IP address and set up the ftp server on each machine to also use that port (if the router doesnt allow you to change the host machine's incoming port).
The router will also handle all the setup of all internal IP addresses for your friends via DHCP.

Hello again.
Yes they are using a router..
Thanks for the input and now I know what to do(their in PPP mode so I can make the changes myself, just gotta find the docs online).

btw STANDARD ports for
WEBSERVER = Port 80
FTP = Port 21
