Making a peer network on 95/98 OS

No need to upgrade to 95 just to enhance networking. DO you have specific problems with the machines seeing each other? In other words. Do you have the machines setup but not seeing each other? Have you done a find computer on one and typed in the NETBIOS name of another machine? Is Netbui loaded or IP's assigned if you are using TCP/IP? That kind of thing.

I'm trying to get 5 machines to talk to each other on Windows 95. Is this possible or do I need to move to 98?
Small office physically connected through a 10/100 hub with Cat 5 cables. Currently running an NT server with 4 machines hanging off running 95. NT is overkill for this setup and the users are lost when it comes to any problems.

JerseyJoe, Thanks for the link to homepclan.com. It answered more questions than the MS website.

ktwebb: the office currently runs on NT with 4 95 machines going through a hub. They share printers and files just fine. But the NT machine is used as a workstation and acts differently from all the others and confuses the hapless users.
I only show up once a week and volunteer some time to repair pc problems. 90% of them revolve around the quirks of NT.
I think I now know how to get the other machines to talk as a peer network and will remove the pesky NT culprit.

It looks like they will be better off without the Ntworkstation which will interact much better into a domain with a dedicated server. Perhaps they are in a transition for a domain environment. If your users are confused, this is not working for them.

Folks,
Finally got time to attempt the switchover. Went by the steps found at www.homepclan.com and the transition was flawless.
Once I had a workgroup going, I disconnected the NT Server and began stripping it down and reloading 95. Had to run FDISK in order to eradicate NT.
All quiet on the small office front
