Network hub questions.

I am planning on getting a network hub and then 2 ethernet cards for my p166 and p3 450, so i can hook them together for games. Do i need windowsNT? Can i use win98 on both machines? Does 1 comkputer have to be the server? Please reply!

Death to Mel,

Welcome to the world of networking.....Yes you can have Win98 on BOTH machines. You will be using what is called "peer to peer" networking. (no need for NT) if you can afford it I would suggest getting a 10/100 system. (the NIC's run about 35-65 bucks each depending on brand and a 5-8 port hub will set you back 85-210 depending on brand) You will need to setup the systems to have the same type of network proticals (spelling was never my strong point ) such as NETBUI or TCP/IP (this is what I would suggest) or IPX if some of your games require it.

Good Luck

U won't have to buy a hub, if u use a twisted pair cable crossover, simply hook the cable direct from the two cards, but i haave to be cross over cable.
I've been doing it with win 3.11, win 95 and now with win98, both at home and work.
Yes, buy the best card u can afford. Bee sure they are both FastEthernet. If u are planning to hook up more than two puters over twisted pair, then u need a hub. If u are going to choose fastethernet cards then make sure u buy fastethernet hub, too.

Good luck
