nortel CM 100 cable modem
hmmm i have a cm100 cable modem and i want to use it in my network when i called the ISP they said that it will only work on one computer but is this true on nortels homepage they say that it has 16ports to connect it to a network but can these be disabled ?? or can i simmply use 2 NICs in the comp and use one of them for the cablemodem and the other for my LAN ?? and thus sharing this modem via wingate or something??

Here is how we have it:
the cable modem plugs into a NIC one of your machines.. then you have a second NIC in that machine which would connect to your internal LAN (in our case, a Hub).
Some ISPs let you plug your cable modem directly into the uplink port of your hub and to allow multiple machines to pull dynamic IPs (using DHCP)... though you'd have to ask your providor about this. Not to mention, the first solution is more secure and lets you use windows file/print sharing without worrying about the other people on your segment (assuming you firewall it correctly *cough*linux*cough*)
