How to connect 2 pcs with 1 RJ45 without using the HUB
I want to know how to make the RJ45 cable direct connect to 2 computers without using the HUB?
Just take one end and plug it into the network card on the first machine, then take the left over end and plug it into the network card on the 2nd machine and Voila!
It's not that easy. That cable has to be a cross cable. If the link lights on the nics turn on when you plug in the cable, that means you have the right cable. If you don't have lights check the order of the colored wires on the connectors. If the order is different you have a cross cable.
To make a crossover cable go to 3com.com, search for crossover cable you will findhow to make cable. Of course you need a crimper and the ends for the cable. Radio Shack has them. You can also buy a crossover cable.
This is the cable configuration I use for an ethernet crossover.
Each column represents a cable end. Hope this helps...
Also it might be a good idea if your using RJ45, the card will have an end on it that has two outlets, you will need a terminal for the ends that aren't being used, otherwise it won't work.
Try your local electrical or computer shop and ask for terminals, place them on the end's that aren't in place.
Perhaps the easiest solution would be to call around to local computer stores and ask for an RJ45 crossover cable. Some people carry them.
