Need help with network login. Puzzling

I have a unique problem. I installed a program that ended up screwing a lot of things up. So I uninstalled it. I had network login enable before, but now it is not there.
This is a win98 machine. I deleted it by just deleting the folder that it was in. I have tried to reinstalling the client for windows network and have login for windows network in the login type but it just comes up with a windows login box
    thanks

Ok i presume you mean where it comes up with a list of profiles and you can select whioch one you want.
Go to network and hit Add then new client ,
Microsoft and select MIcrosoft Family Login in the righthand window.
Hit ok a few times then reboot.

Done that too. I have even uninstalled the client for microsoft networks which allows you to choose the login to network setting.
    And then reinstalled it.

No, he is saying he has lost his network login, and only gets the windows password. I had this problem a long time ago, and cant remember what I did. I would remove everything in network neighborhood properties, Clients, drivers, protocols, services etc.... reboot and reinstall everything back to where it was. This MAY work. Seems like I reinstalled windows but I am sure there is a fix. Lesson learned I hope. Use Add/Remove programs next time.

Well I tried to uninstalling everything drivers and protocols everything. nothing works. I couldn't add remove programs because it wasn't there. It is a real pain in the @ss prog. Lesson learned not to use it.
    Thanks for the help

    BC,
The most likely fix is to delete this registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Network\Real Mode Net\AutoLogon

See this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for more information:

    Best Wishes,

    Paul

sorry paul but that setting is set like you said. Still have to go and login as a different user to do anything on the network.

BC, a couple things may help. When you lose your network login it is often because no server has been found.

So, #1, what kind of server do you have (NT or Novell or something else)?
#2, what protocol are you using (TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, etc)?
#3 If TCP/IP can you ping other stations on your network?

Best solution is probably to delete all services, clients, protocols, and devices in the network applet in control panel, and then reinstall them. By the way, some 3COM network cards need a manual uninstall before you can successfully reinstall their drivers (for example, the 3c905, see http://support.3com.com/infodeli/inotes/techtran/fa46_5ea.htm)

If you can answer questions 1,2, and 3 it will help us help you!

    Good luck

Try pinging the server. You do not need to be logged in to ping. Pinging will tell us whether you really are in contact with the rest of the network.

ok I was just signed on and had to install stuff off of my pc. I am pretty sure that I am in contact. Because I think that I can find my computer in network neighborhood.
be back in a few to tell ya for sure.
    Thanks
you know i didn't even think about this but yes i am in contact with the network. Because i can use the internet sharing modem. so yes I am on the network its just that I can go nowhere or do anything. until i log in.
