Cable Modem
My speed of transfer is different. When I'm sending a file the tranfer speed is 30-40k/sec while I'm receiving the speed drops to 7-8k/sec. All the test were done with two of my friens using cable modems, at the same time with files of 5-10 Mb. I think I should tweak my settings and I'll be happy to receive your input. Any info or links are very appreciated. Thank you all

It really depends on the cable modem and the provider. A friend of mine that has a cablemodem has a 1Mbit download speed, but only 128Kbit upload speed. Since this is not symetrical, it is really hard to guage your speed, especially with another cablemodem user. I would find someplace that you can both upload and download a file from like some ftp site that allows submissions to test. They will likely be on a T1 which has the same bandwidth for incoming and outgoing.
Also, if you have more info about the type of modem and who the service is thru we may be able to be more helpful. Personally, I like my DSL a little better, except when my ISP loses their router. (about once a week)

Thank you, 800XL!
I figured out what was wrong and I fixed the problem. My W98 used before the settings for phone line. My provider, @home, has a utility to adjust your settings for the cable modem. You can use it on your own risk and I did it. It worked fine for me. My download went up to 120Kb/sec for some sites and I'm pleased with their services.
If you want to test the program and see if it is working for you too write back (use my email)
Cheers
Ion
