Starting a LAN
I wanna start a lan up. I got a o/ced 450 celeron300a and a 200mmx o/ced to 225. I was wondering what I have to do to set these two puters up so that I can play network games on them. Thanks.
Well bud all you absolutly need is 2 NIC cards and a "crossover" cable. But now days you can get a 4-6 port 10bt hub for about 30 bucks and then you can use "normal" cat5 cabling. and if you check with www.pricewatch.com you can come up with networking bundles that have everything in them such as what I got recently 2 10/100 Linksys Nic's and a 10/100 autosensing 8 port hub for around 110 bucks with shipping. and then spent about 30 bucks on cabling to run from my computer room (downstairs to wife's computer room upstairs and daughters bedroom) and I am also now running "spoonsproxy" and sharing my 56k modem and dialup isp connection with my daughter so she can surf while i am reading the boards! Good luck!
After I get this installed how would I go about setting it up?
good advice, Mntnsnw, and glad to see SpoonProxy is workin' out for you.
gERONIMo-if you want, i can e-mail you some info on making your own "crossover", along with the basics of networking.
