Elite K7SEM question

I have just got a new Athlon on an Elite K7SEM motherboard. Windows is reporting a missing driver for the PCI Ethernet Controller. Anybody have ideas on where I look for this?

The installation CD is a mess and as a Mac user up to recently, this is driving me nuts.

If Windows is telling you specifically what file it is that's missing when you get that error message, I think what I'd do is just go to Google.com and do a search for it, if it's nowhere to be found on the disks you got with the system. I know I've used the google route before to track down a missing file with only a few clicks and usually got a little extra info to boot.

But even before that, you might just go to "system properties" go down to the ethernet controller and remove it.
Then just reboot and let Windows reinstall it. Be surprised how frequently this helps.

K7SEM is not using the ethernet unit in SiS 730, it's using a separate Realtek 8139. So your driver is at www.realtek.com.tw .

Thanks folks, I'll try a driver from Realtek. The internal Realtek LAN appears to be temporarily toast though, diag reporting a missing EEPROM.

I installed a PCI 10/100 card to get my network up. It all looks fine but I just can't get any throughput.

Does anyone know if the Realtek driver is necessary to support a PCI third party Ethernet card?

Think I'm going to dig up a USB Ethernet adapter to see if I can get the show on the road while I sort out this mess.

Erm, no, you need the Realtek LAN driver for the Realtek LAN chip. Use whatever driver the chip your PCI card requires. (Chances are that it's yet another Realtek - this is the best selling 10/100 LAN chip.)
