k7vza via chipset reads 1.0 GHZ as 750 MHZ.....
I bought a package deal...k7vza board and a 1.0 GHZ amd cpu. The board comes with the VT82c686b chipset. The guys at the store where I bought everything said to change J9 and J10 to change the front end bus speed to 133 mhz, then the board will boot up at 1.0 GHZ instead of 750 MHZ. The manual says that the J9 and J10 cahnge will work only if the VT8363a northbridge chipset is onboard. What do I do?
First of all understand that the VIA chipset consists of two parts - the south bridge which resides on the PCI bus and does peripherals control (your 686B), and the north bridge that connects the CPU and RAM, and originates the PCI bus. THAT chip must be of a certain revision (a KT133A, part number 8363A to be exact) to be 133 MHz CPU capable.
With the K7VZA, you can tell without removing the heatsink - from board revision 3.0 on, the KT133A chip was used.
