    Gigbyte GA-71XE4 Socket A motherboard

I'm having a lot of trouble getting these to work... Duron 750 processor, 128K PC133 memory. I get boot up failure, 2 short beeps, space, 1 short beep. I've got 2 separate setups exactly the same with exactly the same faults. Mem seems ok on other machines and I've tried 2 PSUs. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or have I really got 2 (brand new) sets of faulty gear??

    Any wise words greatly appreciated

Cant tell you much about beeps without knowing more of your sys. I would start by 1. Some boards require that the cpu fan be plugged into the cpu fan power head. 2. Just connect your video card and ram, power to mobo, then see if you can boot (you'll have to have keyboard attached)to bios. if not.
    3. use known good video card and ram from good comp, then try to boot to bios. Once you get that done, then you can add your hd, floppy/zip and cdrom or cdrw/dvd ??? other
pereferials. If you cant get that mobo to boot in box you have it in, take it out and re-install, make sure nothing is grounded wrong. I use those small phenolic washers on my mobo's now. Hope this helps. I am more of a hands on type than trying to explain what I do.

We have had problems with the Giga-byte GA-7IXE4 motherboards here. Sounds like the motherboard is making contact with one of the case mounts. We took the motherboard and placed it on top of the original cardboard box and tried powering up the system and we eventually got it working. We had to place plastic risers for most of the support and only place screws in a few key places. You may have to try one screw at a time to find out which one is allowing the motherboard to contact the case.

One of ours runs fine now, but we are still having problems running Windows 98SE since it is reporting a problem with ACPI.

Does anyone know of any updates that fix problems with ACPI?

I'm running the same board with my Tbird 1G and 512Mb PC-133. No problems. Been rock stable since day 1, dual booting WinMe and Mandrake 8.
