No Mouse on a PA-2001 motherboard

Why does the mouse not get picked up by Win95? The message "you can now connect a PS/2 mouse" keeps appearing, when there is no PS/2 mouse and its functions are disabled in the BIOS.The motherboard is a PA-2001 with with a regular serial mouse connected to the onboard Com1 port(with port installed).I tried changing the mouse and the cable and yet no mouse. I'm lost,I need help, did I miss something?
