I've been using it about a week on W2K. Have absolutely no problems with it. IT even seems to keep password lists better than the orig version.

    Thumbs down

Whenever I try to download IE5.1 and now IE5.5 i get the message "Setup was unable to download the required components. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet, or try to run setup again later".

I am currently using IE5.0 and have tried to get IE5.1 probly 10-15 times in the past month with no luck. Now I had the same problem with the 5.5 version.

Has anyone else had this problem? I basically am about to give up on it, but would really like to know what is going on here .

Brywood, have you checked your IE security settings before accessing the WinUpdate page? MS hates security settings If you're running a proxy addy, you might want to try going direct also.

Make sure Java/ActiveX/cookies/scripting, etc. is "enabled".

Here's a direct link to MS WinUpdate, which has IE5.01

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/d...ds/default.asp

    Good luck!

    Thanks for your help socalgal,

Unfortunatly I still didn't have any success. I went to tools/internet options and set security to the lowest setting and shut off ZoneAlarm, but still no go. When the setup failed i clicked the help and got the following message...

"Setup could not download the needed files. This could be because the Internet site you are connecting to is busy, your Internet connection is slow, or the connection to your Internet service provider (ISP) was broken.
Please try connecting again at a later time to complete the download, when the Internet site is less busy or you can get a better connection".

I really cant figure out why this is happening. Like I said in my post above, I have tried a number of times at different times in the day and night. I have a good fast cable connection so i dont think slow connection speed would apply.

    Really stumped

    Cool

Actually, BBA, I've noticed that I have to manually enter passwords a lot more since installing 5.5

    Hmmm

Maybe I need to dig around and see what's up. Probably just something simple that I overlooked.

    C y'all...

    Question

    Brywood, other thoughts...

From Explorer, delete files in Temporary Internet Files, Temp, Cookies (the files in those folders, not the folders/directories themselves).

How much space is left on your hdd?

How many directories on your C:\ ? 512 is the max and I *believe* you would have problems if you're at that limit.

    Wink

    Thanks again socalgal,

Turns out all I had to do was delete my Windows Update Setup Files. There were no problems what so ever after doing so. I did try all your suggestions first and greatly appreciate your help .

BTW, Correct me if I'm wrong. I was thinking that the 512 directories was a DOS limitation and would not apply to WIN95/98. Is this incorrect?
