Motherboard Bios string / memory problem
I am having a memory problem on this motherboard. The bios string is:
I 430VX 2A59GF3BC-00
It is a socket 7 board currently running a pentium 133mhz cpu. it had 16 meg of edo ram (72 pin) I pulled these out and put in a 168 pin sdram (64 meg ) but it still only shows 16 meg. what gives???
See if you have an option in your BIOS to resest configuration data. It is different that the standard reset defualts. If so, enable it, and reboot. Then everything should be working, and the extra memory found.
Your memory problem has nothing to do with your BIOS or the manufacturer of your motherboard, it has to do with the Intel 430VX chipset, it doesn't have the capacity of using a 64 Meg DIMM. On a motherboard with a VX chipset, the max capacity of any memory "bank" is 32 meg, therefore you can use either a 16 or 32 MEG DIMM, but not a 64 Meg. If you have 72-pin sockets, the maximum SIMM size you can use is 16 meg per socket (for a pair equalling 32 MEG).
Probably not what you wanted to hear, sorry.
