Getting the following error message after attempting to install Win2K Professional Upgrade > DLL\??\C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SFCFILES.DLL ; latest system rom installed BEH_QY.BIN; using IDE 1 NOT HPT 66>which is disabled in BIOS; NO virus in MBR - virus checker run; can't even boot this dog in Safe Mode :--)NO other hardware installed other than Matrox Mystique 220; boot order set to FDD, CDRom, HDD-01 > have tried HDD-0 as well. I am at a loss. Currently installing NT4 & then will try to ugrade again. Failing that - Anyone want to BUY a ABIT BE6 Rev 2 real cheap - email me :--) OR else coming to EBAY real soon. Then, I will go back to my tried and true Soyo.

It is best to do a CLEAN install of Win2K on the ata33 ide buss and AFTER you have installed the correct support for the ATA66 interface and varified that you dont have any hardware conflicts then edit your boot.ini file to show the ata66 interface and change your bios booting options to show the boot drive as ata66.

BTW IF you do decide to "give up give me a shout as to what you want for the board"

Formatted Fat16 & installed WinNT 4 without any problems; Left display configured as std VGA; NO other cards/boards installed; checked jumpers on MB to ensure they were set at defaults; checked bios settings again; upgraded to Win2K - boom > error message C0000221 (Bad Image Checksum)OLESVR32.DLL is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum. OK - isn't that special :--) So next event > changed slot for memory (thinking the manual is wrong about location of bank 1) installed the memory closest to the IDE connectors - counts memory OK > 64MB; installed different memory > same error message. Someone pinch me - I think I am having a nightmare - anyone want a well read BE6-II manual? oh & have I mentioned that they provide the manual for you again on the CDRom? Guess when I wear out one hardcopy I can print another one. IF anyone sees a unidentified flying object in their neighborhood -> it's probably this BE6-Rev II. I have already downloaded the latest Highpoint drivers for Win2K ... I will try a fresh install of NT4 then upgrade to Win2K using these drivers by installing them at the appropriate point by pressing F6. For now - I am gonna rest my weary head.

I would again suggest that you try to do a CLEAN install of Win2K instead of upgrading. The same disk can be used...All you will have to do is at one point is insert your NT4 cd to verify that you do have NT and it validates you to use the upgrade cd.

Success mntsnow ... Finally the smell of VICTORY without the agony of defeat.

Steps: Swapped in another CDRom drive; cleared CMOS & reconfigured BIOS on boot; fdisk & fomatted HDD FAT 32; booted to Win2K CDRom & did a clean install - inserting Win NT4 CD when prompted - past the point where it bombed last time & right at MIDNIGHT too - See I knew this board was cursed ... I know I cursed @ it :--) Now that it's been Xorcised I feel a whole lot better. OK folks U can lower the radar screens & alerts for that unidentified flying object :--) I'm OK your OK.

I was going to suggest flashing to the latest bios, But I'm glad everything is working.

bhes > I did flash the BIOS (3/2000)early on in the troubleshooting process; my next assignment (IF I choose to accept it) will be to reload Win2K after enabling the IDE3 Ulta DMA66 controller...now that should be fun :--) I already have the latest Win2K Highpoint drivers for the controller downloaded > ver 1.22 Yeah Hot Rod 66 - Get your motor running .. head out on the highway .. looking for adventure ....
