Looking for monster hard disk
I am looking for a 40gb+ hard disk.
It has to be either either ata66 or ultra wide scsi 2.
I am looking for a relativly cheap drive, but it needs to hit the following specs...
7200rpm
ata66 must have 2mb cache
any ideas?

No killer, but I'd sure like one too...

Sorry, I don't know where you can get one individually but you can buy a 40gb 7200RPM hard drive with a Dell Dimension B Series computer. Doesn't help you much but at least you know that they're out there...

I also there is a 73gb drive shipping in deep blues...with enough brothers and sisters to make about 3 terabytes...

so 100GB = 1TB
oh...I though it was 1000GB = 1TB...oh well

Maxtor is coming out with a 60 gig HD, but it has a spindle speed of 5400.

I have one of the maxtor diamond max plus's, and it does indeed scream. I bought it to use for video capture on my marvel g400 and I have yet to see it hickup. You should be able to find it for a little less than $300.

Ahhhhh - the ability to loose soooo much data all at once when the drive finally crashes -
Use a RAID array, my son - and you'll thank me after you replace the first drive that crashes without losing any data.....
There are SCSI and IDE RAID solutions out there - take a look at promise technologies - they've got all sorts of goodies, and the logical drive is seen as one unit and access speed is actually faster than a 7500 RPM single drive for RAID solutions....
thing is, they don't come cheap - but the savings are in the back-up media you'll never need and the hours of lost time you'll never miss restoring from back-up....

I'll take two... CPU's
KB...CompUSA just had a sale for 40G Maxtor 7200RPM drives w/2M cache for $249.00
I know 4 people who bought them.
It's over now, but they still have the drives.

I know of a 73 GB 10,000 RPM drive! Its only $2,300 CDN though........
